Nathan signs with Composers Edition

Nathan has signed with the publishing house, Composers Edition, where a selection of his solo instrumental, song, and chamber and large ensemble works are available to view and purchase as part of their catalogue. Founded in 2013, Composers Edition is a unique and fully independent publishing enterprise proudly serving composers, performers and champions of contemporary music-making, housing some of the leading contemporary voices in the UK.

The release

Often dealing with ideas of memory, relationships, and at times satirically with social issues, the music of Nathan James Dearden is direct, honest and beautifully crafted. Informed by his considerable conducting experience, his musical ideas are always excellently executed and clearly presented on the page.

Having just returned from a Serbian tour, Dearden has a busy summer of world premieres. July brings a performance of no other haven by Sinfonia Cymru at the inaugural concert of the brand new Cerddwn development hub. Then the Philharmonia Orchestra (cond. Geraint Bowen) join the Three Choirs Festival Chorus in a festival commission messages. The festival performances continue in August with a premiere of (ail-)atgofion by Sinfonia Cymru at Eisteddfod 2024 and choral works at this year’s Presteigne Festival with the Choir of Royal Holloway.

About the new signing, Nathan comments “Composers Edition is a publisher that has had a special place in my heart since I was a student. Their scores have sat on my piano, my writing desk, and my conductor’s stand. I have performed from them. I have studied them. Two of my teachers are published by them – Robert Fokkens and Mark Bowden. Many of my friends, mentors, and colleagues are published by them. Composers Edition has, remains, and continues to be that positive community in music publishing for contemporary composers. I am so honoured to be included in the community I have revered for so many years and I look forward to what the future will bring with the committed and energising support of the CE family.”

Composers Edition is delighted that Dearden is joining us and proud to present an initial selection of works which demonstrate the breadth of Dearden’s scope including vocal, chamber and ensemble pieces. We look forward to working with him and the musicians, commissioners and programmers of his works.
