'the bright morning-star' with Kantos

  • Victoria Baths Hathersage Road Manchester, M13 0FE England (map)

Performer(s): Kantos Chamber Choir; Ellie Slorach (cond.)

Event overview

Bathe in the warmth of the sun, where sound and sculpture meet for a dramatic and poignant performance inspired by our closest star. Experience Kantos’ stunning voices in the glow of Luke Jerram’s Helios, an epic spherical artwork of the sun. In the cathedral-like acoustic of Victoria Baths, join us as we journey from the first glimmers of dawn to the deep glow of nightfall.

Our voices trace the sun’s arc across the sky, with the birdsong of David Matthews’ Dawn Chorus, and the bright heat of Ben Nobuto’s Sol; with the gentle rocking of Emili Sande’s Where I Sleep, and the transcendent minimalism of Meredith Monk’s Nightfall.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to see an extraordinary artwork and pioneering chorus together in a landmark space.

The performance will last around one hour without an interval. The bar will be open before and after the performance.
