'we used to' at University of Aberdeen

  • King's Pavilion King's Pavilion Aberdeen, Scotland, AB24 2ZD United Kingdom (map)

Performer(s): Lliam Paterson (piano)

Event Description

The art of transcription is seen in the reimagining of vocal works for the keyboard by Nathan James Dearden and Liszt. The lyrical form of the Ballade popularised by Chopin is traced through the works of Clara Wieck-Schumann and Kaija Saariaho. Stripped back textures pioneered by Erik Satie find echoes in the works of Julius Eastman and Ryuichi Sakamoto. At the heart of the recital is Caroline Shaw’s response to a Chopin Mazurka, her contemporary soundworld surrounding a complete rendition of Chopin’s work.
