'(ail-)atgofion' for Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Tlws y Cyfansoddwr

Jon Pountney; 'Quiet evening in Tonyrefail tonight, March 2024'

(ail-)atgofion [ translates as (re-)memories or (second) memories] is all about memories. Memories that we hold close to us, but also memories we forget. Memories that are lost to time.

Inspired by the photograph taken by Jon Pountney, 'Quiet evening in Tonyrefail tonight, March 2024', this work is about my home. Memories of childhood. Memories of family. Happy memories. Sad memories. Memories of a time that is lost. Personal memories. And memories of a town changed. Once an important gateway to the Valleys, to industry. Now a quiet town of change.

This work was written for the Tlws y Cyfansoddwr [Composer's Trophy] at the National Eisteddfod 2024 in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taff.
