‘My spirit sang all day’ for Founder’s Choir

Singing Finzi’s My spirit sang all day as a teenager was one of those rare musical experiences where everything just clicked — those moments of unison seemed to sit with me. Brief moments of collectivity before the harmony blossoms like a little flower. There’s something both mystifying yet profound how such a short piece of music can sit in ones memory. Now when writing music, it is both a blessing and a curse having famous settings sat in the corner of the room. Judging your every move. Like a dance with a ghost. But there is also something exciting about acknowleding those ghosts in your own music - however briefly. Like a nod of acceptance or homage.

This work was written for Luke Cherry and the Founder’s Choir of Royal Holloway for their 2025 summer tour to Latvia.
