Nathan honoured at Eisteddfod Celebrations

Following Nathan’s awarding of the 2024 Tlws y Cyfansoddwr at the National Eisteddfod, the most prestigious medal awarded to composers in Wales, he was honoured as part of an evening celebration in his hometown of Tonyrefail.

On the 6 November 2024, members of the community gathered at Tonyrefail Community School to celebrate the successes of the 2024 National Eisteddfod, hosted in August, in the near town of Pontypridd. The evening saw performances from local choirs and schools, speeches from Helen Prosser (Chair of the Eisteddfod Executive Committee) and Gwynfor Dafydd (Winner of the 2024 National Eisteddfod Crown for poetry, also from Tonyrefail).

Representing Nathan at this event were members of his family, a short video presentation of his experiences at the Eisteddfod and an excerpt of the winning work.

Nathan comments: “Like many, the Eisteddfod Genedlaethol has played a big part in my life since I was a child. Having it hosted in Rhondda Cynon Taf has been fantastic to showcase not only the very best of Welsh cultural life, but the best of the Valleys. To win the prestigious Tlws y Cyfansoddwr on 'home turf is such an honour, and I can't thank the Eisteddfod enough for giving me the opportunity to work with Sinfonia Cymru, my amazing colleagues Lowri and Tomos, and for showcasing this Valley's boy.“

Ar ôl i Nathan ddyfarnu Tlws y Cyfansoddwr 2024 yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, y fedal fwyaf mawreddog a ddyfarnwyd i gyfansoddwyr yng Nghymru, fe’i hanrhydeddwyd fel rhan o ddathlu gyda’r nos yn ei dref enedigol, Tonyrefail.

Ar 6 Tachwedd 2024, ymgasglodd aelodau o’r gymuned yn Ysgol Gymunedol Tonyrefail i ddathlu llwyddiannau Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2024, a gynhaliwyd ym mis Awst, yn nhref ger Pontypridd.Yn ystod y noson cafwyd perfformiadau gan gorau ac ysgolion lleol, anerchiadau gan Helen Prosser (Cadeirydd Pwyllgor Gwaith yr Eisteddfod) a Gwynfor Dafydd (Enillydd Coron Barddoniaeth Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2024).

Yn cynrychioli Nathan yn y digwyddiad hwn roedd aelodau o’i deulu, cyflwyniad fideo byr o’i brofiadau yn yr Eisteddfod a detholiad o’r gwaith buddugol.

Meddai Nathan: “Fel llawer, mae’r Eisteddfod Genedlaethol wedi chwarae rhan fawr yn fy mywyd ers yn blentyn. Mae cael ei gynnal yn Rhondda Cynon Taf wedi bod yn wych i arddangos nid yn unig y gorau o fywyd diwylliannol Cymru, ond y gorau o'r Cymoedd. Mae ennill gwobr fawreddog Tlws y Cyfansoddwr ar ‘home turf’ yn gymaint o anrhydedd, ac ni allaf ddiolch digon i’r Eisteddfod am roi’r cyfle i mi weithio gyda Sinfonia Cymru, fy nghydweithwyr anhygoel Lowri a Tomos, ac am arddangos bachgen o’r Fali hwn. “
