Nathan selected for Tŷ Cerdd Tuag Opera

Nathan has been selected for Tŷ Cerdd’s new research and development programme, Tuag Opera, for 2024-25, to develop a new Welsh-language opera.

Following an open call six early-career music-creators and six early-career writers were selected to explore and create a moment of opera together in the Welsh-language – with support and guidance from music director Iwan Teifion Davies, writer Gwyneth Glyn, and Michael McCarthy of Music Theatre Wales.

Alongside supporting the selected artists to develop their skills and the creation of these new operatic responses, the programme will be addressing broader questions around our contemporary relationship to the operatic artform and its position in Wales:

  • what is new opera?

  • how can it be part of Wales today?

  • can working in Welsh be part of moving the artform forward and creating a living tradition in Wales?

The project is made possible by incredibly generous support from a range of funders, including Jerwood Foundation, Arts Council of Wales and PRS Foundation.
